New Music Friday: Adele's '30' has the TL in a shambles

As the weather turns bitterly cold and the skies begin to turn pitch black at 4 PM, we might have found ourselves with a case of SAD. As we indulge into comfort foods and are forced to brace for the festive period, there is some good news on the horizon- there's a brand new set of fresh music releases we can delve into!

Let's take a look at Kindred's top picks of the week:

FKA Twigs ft. Central Cee - Measure Of A Man

In the unlikely pairing of rapper Central Cee and singer-songwriter FKA Twigs, their collaborative track "Measure Of A Man" comes as an interesting addition to their discographies, however they do compliment each other remarkably. With FKA Twigs adopting a Portishead-esque croon with production that people have described similar to a 'bond-theme' type tune, Central Cee powers through the track delivering hard-hitting bars as usual. The 'Commitment Issues' rapper has been cleverly navigating his way through the industry after his incredibly popular remix of Pink Pantheress' "Just For Me" in which he flipped into "Obsessed With You", whilst FKA Twigs marks her return from her 2019 album MAGDALENE.

Adele - 30

Adele's release of her latest album 30 offers us an incredibly heart-breaking selection of songs that show her in her most vulnerable as she tears through the painful realities of her divorce. With the opening track sounding like it came straight of a Disney movie with lethargic strings and organs, the album descends devastatingly into pits of loneliness, heartache and admitting that she's having an incredibly hard time not knowing what to do next or what's to come for the future. As well as including tracks that touch on finding new love after heart-break and poppier songs that lift the mood, 30 is an album best enjoyed with a tissue box within reaching distance and a tub of ice-cream.

Standout track: "My Little Love"

Dappy - Fortune

After spending the last few weeks on tour, the notorious N-Dubz rapper has made a tremendous comeback since his previous solo album Bad Intentions which came out back in 2012. His latest project Fortune has Dappy collaborating with some popular names in the game right now such as Shaybo, Nafe Smalls and Stefflon Don. Executively produced by Mazebeats100, Fortune also features a mixture of drill, Afrobeats and rap as well as talent from his old bandmate Fazer. Playing to his strengths for this new album, Dappy is proving how much weight his name carries within the rap scene right now.

Standout track: "What's Yours Is Mine"

Future Bubblers - Future Bubblers 5.0

Coming straight from a well nurtured garden planted by Gilles Peterson and with the help from the Arts Council England, the latest group of Future Bubblers released their compilation album Future Bubblers 5.0, featuring exciting variations of rap and neo-soul to industrial and spoken word. Although the album isn't surrounding one genre, it gives each artist the creativity and individuality to produce something that's meaningful to them. The Future Bubbler's initiative is a talent development program which select a handful of up and coming artists around the country to give them support and mentorship to kickstart their musical career. Standout track: Nose Dive

Saba - Stop That

After releasing a handful of singles after his widely popular 2018 album Care For Me, Saba revealed that he will be releasing his new album Few Good Things and shared this much harder track following his initial groovy single "Fearmonger'" which is also looking to be featured. The Chicago rapper also mentioned what this track means by saying: " I feel like more often than not, we let our own judgement of ourselves knock our confidence off before anyone else even offers any feedback. Our own insecurities ring really loudly in our heads, to the point where we make ourselves smaller before giving anyone else the chance to. This is something that I feel like I found myself beginning to do over the years. Hiding from the uncomfortable moment. And this song works as my noticing and correcting that.
