Berwyn - Mia
With the Romford-raised rapper coming further into the spotlight of the UK underground rap scene, Berwyn shared the single "MIA" which comes as the first single since his second mixtape TAPE2/FOMALHAUT, with "MIA" coming through as an emotional track that speaks on violence and loss. As he uniquely tells his stories through a passionate pen, Berwyn mentioned that this track means the universe to him: “I titled it "MIA" because it does what it says on the tin, it’s a time to think and to honour the people that aren’t with us now…and to acknowledge the fact that there is still a lot of violence outside. Performing this song comes like walking through a gate to the other side feels mad spiritual, not sure why"
Chloe Bodur – MAVI
Chloe Bodur unveiled the highly anticipated EP ‘MAVI’ this week which spoke on love, relationships but also her struggles with mental health. With each of the five tracks featured showing a vulnerable side to Chloe, she touches on moments of not being her true self for others to fit in, femininity and the highs and lows of life and relationships. With the word "mavi" translating to blue in Turkish as Chloe is of Turkish and Sri-Lankan descent, she said that this project helped her push through her mental health over the years. “Writing these 5 songs helped me work through it, communicate my feelings to those I needed help from, and worked as a type of therapy for me. If social media showcases the happy-highlights reel of my life then this 5-track project depicts the opposite and invites people into my alternate, bluer reality.”
CASisDEAD – Boys Will Be Boys
With "Park Assist" being released featuring La Roux this September, it’s proof that the masked maverick CASisDead is back onto the scene with this brand new single "Boys Will Be Boys", an 80s-synth vibe centred track that came with a dystopian visual from the DEADCORP.tv site. As the video follows re-life actor Emma Rigby playing fictional character Megan Madsen, she navigates through celebrity life but slowly realises how unnerving it can be in the spotlight.
Ninioh - Chronic
Birmingham-based rapper Ninioh revealed the Skepta-esque track "Chronic" fit with hard-hitting bars and a catchy beat. The Blue Room Mafia member shows off his versatility by mixing flows and consistently evolving his sound. With Ninioh being in the game for a while and finally receiving the recognition he deserves, "Chronic" comes as a reminder that he’s still one of the best songwriters to come out of Birmingham.
Shaybo ft. NSG – Don’t Play Me
With rising rapper Shaybo releasing her debut mixtape Queen Of The South in August featuring Jorja Smith, Haile, Wale and Dreamdoll, Shaybo took things down an afroswing path with this brand new track "Don’t Play Me" featuring collective NSG. Produced by 4PLAY and GuiltyBeatz, "Don’t Play Me" comes as a mellow and laid-back track as the Lewisham-based artist intertwines singing and rapper with a rich melody. As she takes a step back from her usual drill-style spitting, Shaybo continues to rise in the UK rap scene, displaying her adaptability.
